APAMSA Meeting Notes and Action Items

HEPATITIS B CONFERENCE
· We debriefed the APAMSA Hep B annual meeting in Boston from last quarter
· Michael will look into setting up a roundtable between APAMSA members and a physician who works on Hep B
HEP B VIDEO
· There is interest in making/editing an informational video about Hep B for high school students
o Robin and Michael will look into this and working with MAPS
o Need a volunteer to help with this project
HEP B FOCUS GROUP
· We debriefed the focus group – there was interest in a skills based session on Hep B to supplement what is taught to health professional students about Hep B
· Focus group results and plan of action will be presented on April 30th
· Annual Hep B forum – free food – on evening of Thursday, May 6th
HEP B INFO SESSION
· We are hoping to hold an info session on Hep B this quarter for health professional students
· The agenda:
o 20 minutes from Kim Nguyen on state of Hep B organizing efforts and future plans
o 40min – 1 hr from a physician on:
§ What you need to know about Hep B as a healthcare professional
§ Common pitfalls to avoid
o Potential speakers – Sing Lam, John Choe, others
· Need a volunteer to help with some of this
· James will e-mail Kim to set up a good time and find a speaker
· Michael will contact other APAMSA chapters to see what agendas have resonated well with students
HEP B SCREENINGS
· Screenings for Hep B have typically been set up by a liaison between the Hep B Coalition and a community setting (community center, church, etc)
· We are looking for potential places to hold screenings
· They need volunteer interpreters for these screenings – students can help
· Possible places:
o Quest Church in Ballard – Victor and Grace have contact
o Chinese churches in Beacon Hill – Victor and Grace have contact
o Chinatown/International District community center
o Temples – Buddhist
§ Rainier - Chua Co Lam
§ Japanese in ID
§ Capitol Hill – Tibetan
· James will contact Kim to see if these places sound like good ideas
MINORITY PHYSICIANS PANEL
- 2nd look weekend has been cancelled by OMCA due to budget cuts
- We may help put together a panel anyway for med students with MSA funding
- We can get more MSA funding by working with LMSA, SNMA, and AFERM
- Robin and Amanda will contact OMCA to see if they can still fund 2nd look weekend activities and/or the minority physicians panel
- All will look into what physicians may be good for the panel
ICHS TOUR
- We have contacts at ICHS
- Students may benefit from a tour of the cool place
- We can eat dim sum afterwards!
- Victor will contact ICHS to set up a tour on a Monday morning or weekend
ICHS PROJECT
- SPARX (Sharon Dobie, Ian Maki) is interested in creating a community based project with ICHS
- It would involve shadowing community health workers on home visits, identifying needs, and creating a service project
- Han is interested in spearheading this project
- James will contact Sharon, Ian, and ICHS for next steps
APAMSA CONTINUITY
· Ideas – we are in need of them
· http://apamsa.org/ - they have a list of national programs and articles about events held by other chapters for future ideas for projects
· Need a volunteer for Spring/Summer BP screening project
